Clean early morning, never middayPanels are cool in the morning. Cold water on hot panels causes thermal stress and can micro-crack cells. Early morning also means the panels are covered in dew which helps loosen dust naturally.

Switch off the solar system before cleaningTurn off the inverter and close the DC disconnect switch before starting. Water and live electrical systems are a serious safety combination. Never clean a live system.

Use only clean water and soft cloth or squeegeeNo detergent, no soap, no scrubbers. Detergent leaves residue that attracts more dust. Hard brushes and abrasive materials scratch the anti-reflective coating and permanently reduce output.

Will my inverter warranty be affected if I clean the panels myself?
Panel cleaning does not affect inverter warranty. However, if you accidentally damage the panel during cleaning (scratch the glass, break a junction box), this may affect your panel product warranty if the manufacturer determines it was improper handling. Can I hire someone to clean my rooftop solar panels?

Is there a self-cleaning coating on solar panels?
